Defense Stands Tall, Browns Move into 2nd

More rain, same result.

Another soggy afternoon at FirstEnergy Stadium played right into the hands of the Cleveland Browns once again, as they beat the visiting Philadelphia Eagles 22-17.

The Browns improved to 7-3 with the win, and a Ravens loss to Tennessee moved them into 2nd place in the AFC North. More importantly, they now currently hold a playoff spot, and head to feast on the 1-9 Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday.

The story of the game was dominated by Cleveland’s defense, who totaled 2 interceptions, a safety, and pummeled Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz all day despite their star Myles Garrett being ruled out with COVID-19 concerns.

Sione Takitaki’s pick-six was the of the first half, the only points by either team. Oliver Vernon had a day, including the aforementioned safety, creating havoc for Wentz and the Eagles offensive line. Denzel Ward was a menace throughout, and came up with a timely pick with the Eagles threatening late in the 4th.

The second half played exactly how Kevin Stefanski would like it to. Usual suspects Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, who reportedly can “feel” when they’ve worn down the opponent’s defense, began to pounce. Chubb finished with 114 yards and a nasty stiff-arm that led to a huge 54-yard run. His counterpart Hunt finished off the drive with an incredible leap and dive over multiple bodies for Cleveland’s only offensive touchdown of the day.

It’s easy to chalk this up as another bad team making an average team look incredible, but credit the Browns for playing a complete game with key players out and tough weather conditions in an already pivotal game they’ll bank heavily on in their push for a playoff spot.

Also Wentz, my god. You make me want to kiss Baker.

At any rate, keep this same energy against the Jags; don’t get complacent, control the game with the run, defense remain solid, and march into Tennessee with a chance to knock them out of the playoff picture.

Gotta get back to Grey’s with the wife.

Cheers.
