Vindicated: ‘Same Old Browns’ Stun Steelers

Full disclosure before you dive in, this one will probably be all over the place, at least structurally. It’ll probably sway back and forth from a recap to a personal love letter to the Browns, so again just fair warning. If you’re wondering why this is victory post is so late, I was out in Tahoe for my lady’s birthday over the weekend and have just finally slept off all the unspeakable things I put my body through. Consequently, I couldn’t experience the first Cleveland Browns playoff game in decades exactly how I wanted to. Instead of my living room … Continue reading Vindicated: ‘Same Old Browns’ Stun Steelers

Just Enough: Browns Extinguish Playoff Drought

It was all set up. The Browns in a virtual win or go home scenario against their bitter rivals, the Pittsburg Steelers. Reserve option Mason Rudolph, who’s name will forever be linked to Myles Garrett’s for the helmet debacle, puts up an inspired effort despite his team resting some of its key players. The game is close late, and in a way only the Cleveland Browns can, they somehow manage to lose and miss the playoffs with 10 wins, once again succumbing to the torture the Steelers relish in giving them. Most of these things happened, but thank GOD, the … Continue reading Just Enough: Browns Extinguish Playoff Drought

COVID Crutch: Browns Pushed to the Brink

In a year infested with things ruined by the coronavirus, the Browns, who were relatively unscathed at this point, finally got bit. Bad. The Browns got word mid-way through last Saturday that their entire wide receiver core, 1-4, would be out due to close contact protocols. That meant the likes of Jarvis Landry, Donovan Peoples-Jones, Rashard Higgins, and Khadarel Hodge would all be watching the game from the sidelines. Other notables included starters Jedrick Wills Jr., linebacker Jacob Phillips, and B.J. Goodson. In essence, the Browns offense and most of their defense would be severely undermanned. And when you’re that … Continue reading COVID Crutch: Browns Pushed to the Brink

Browns Barely Break Sweat, March Closer to Postseason

Sunday night’s game against the Giants at MetLife stadium left nothing to stand in the Browns’ way of a leisurely win other than themselves and an above average New York defense. And in their 20-6 victory, the Browns calmly overcame both. Baker Mayfield kept the Browns offense steady throughout the night, once again rifling the right passes at the right times to sustain drives and lead Cleveland to easy scores against a daunting Giants’ front line. The only other thing Cleveland needed to do to maintain control of this game was to not spot one of the NFL’s most anemic … Continue reading Browns Barely Break Sweat, March Closer to Postseason

Why the Warriors Will Regret Passing on LaMelo

Just before draft night, I said I didn’t think LaMelo Ball should go #1. I am not backing out of that statement. I thought the defensive shortcomings were too glaring, and that he had a lot more ground to cover in terms of his overall game to be drafted 1st overall. Also, the Minnesota Timberwolves, who owned the #1 pick, needed a more complete player, right now. The likes of Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell need to make the jump to a playoff team in the Western Conference before the Wolves are forced to blow it up, so Anthony Edwards … Continue reading Why the Warriors Will Regret Passing on LaMelo

Browns Drop Nail-Biter, But Not Confidence

I’m more of an advocate for conciliation losses than the average guy. Maybe because despite the successes of the Lakers and SF Giants this decade, there has been plenty of rebuilding and futility for both teams as well, so I take everything with a grain of salt. So naturally, when it comes to the Browns, who haven’t seen real success since I was still learning how in the hell 2 plus 2 equaled 4, I am pulling the moral victory card on their loss to the Ravens Monday night. The then 9-3 Cleveland Browns still garnered skeptics to question their … Continue reading Browns Drop Nail-Biter, But Not Confidence

The New Kids: Thoughts on Laker Pickups

The defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers got busy this offseason, adding new faces to their already star-studded roster. This going to be a long one, if you’re curious. Before we get into the new acquisitions, first a shout out to the returnees. LeBron James and Anthony Davis resigned long-term, cementing the Lakers as championship contenders for the next 3-4 years, at least. I don’t expect the two of them to come out of the gates swinging at full force with the short offseason, so health and longevity will once again be the biggest question marks for the league’s most … Continue reading The New Kids: Thoughts on Laker Pickups

Big Game Baker: Coming Out Party for QB, Browns

Browns fans across the nation watched Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans with the same puzzled expression: “…Is this OUR Browns?” In a game in which a win for either 8-3 squad would virtually stamp their ticket to the postseason, and silence a cavalcade of doubters, the Browns unleashed a flurry of first-half offense to bury the Titans early and ultimately win 41-35. The story of the day was none other than Baker Mayfield, who threw for 4 first-half TDs and, despite late 4th quarter fumble to give Tennessee a prayer’s chance, was nearly perfect. Mayfield posted a gaudy 334 … Continue reading Big Game Baker: Coming Out Party for QB, Browns

A Polished Turd: Browns Survive Jags

A win is a win, as they say. The Cleveland Browns slugged their way through Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars to win 25-23, in a win that was all parts ugly, but still pushed things forward for the lovable losers. With the dub, the Browns improved to 8-3, sitting dead even with Buffalo and Tennessee, the latter of which they will see in Week 12 in a contest to answer the question: “Who’s for real, and who’s not?” But back to Sunday, which was anything but pretty. Granted, the defense was heavily depleted due to COVID complications, among general … Continue reading A Polished Turd: Browns Survive Jags

Defense Stands Tall, Browns Move into 2nd

More rain, same result. Another soggy afternoon at FirstEnergy Stadium played right into the hands of the Cleveland Browns once again, as they beat the visiting Philadelphia Eagles 22-17. The Browns improved to 7-3 with the win, and a Ravens loss to Tennessee moved them into 2nd place in the AFC North. More importantly, they now currently hold a playoff spot, and head to feast on the 1-9 Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday. The story of the game was dominated by Cleveland’s defense, who totaled 2 interceptions, a safety, and pummeled Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz all day despite their star Myles … Continue reading Defense Stands Tall, Browns Move into 2nd
