Stellar Booker, Suns Send Champs Home

Sometimes, it’s just not meant to be. The Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Phoenix Suns 113-100 about half an hour ago as I start this. A long, injury plagued season has come to a somber end, with plenty to discuss in regards to the purple and gold. I’m kind of just going to jot down some raw-ish reactions to the game, with some of those big picture things sprinkled in here and there. But whatever I feel like I missed I’ll maybe compile into another Laker post before taking a hiatus from them, as depressing as that is for … Continue reading Stellar Booker, Suns Send Champs Home

LeBron’s Prayer, Caruso Heroics & Looking Ahead to Phoenix

If we learned anything from last night’s slugfest between the Lakers and Warriors, it’s this: “If you’re seeing three, always aim at the middle rim.” The Lakers survived one hell of an effort from Stephen Curry and Golden State in their first play-in game to lock down the 7th seed in the Western Conference, and set their first-round date with the Phoenix Suns later on this weekend. The Warriors came out confident, taking full advantage of a sluggish start from the Lakers, particularly from LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Dennis Schröder, who were abysmal in the first half of this … Continue reading LeBron’s Prayer, Caruso Heroics & Looking Ahead to Phoenix

This is Not Good

Just tucked in the misses to bed, waiting for midnight to hit this week’s Falcon & Winter Soldier. Really intrigued so far, like the trade-off of less episodes for longer individual runtimes, not to say the more drawn-out approach didn’t help WandaVision’s suspense levels, but this format I’m in on for sure. But while we’re both here, let’s talk about the Lakers, who even I, one of the most optimistic, unapologetically apologetic fans out there, am leaning off the cliff edge ready to plummet into an abyss of sadness after tonight’s game. They lost 109-101 after rallying late against an … Continue reading This is Not Good

Brow Down: Reactions to AD’s Injury

The Lakers quest to repeat as NBA Champions has officially hit its first official road block. And this one’s a real doozy. Anthony Davis had previously missed a few games with a sore right Achilles tendon, and shortly after returning to action, re-aggravated it in Sunday night’s loss to Denver. Lakers Nation held their breaths for a potential season-crippling Woj report that confirmed an Achilles tear, but we were able to partially exhale when it was just a strain. The strain isn’t a saving grace, though. The Lakers’ staff estimated 2-3 weeks of recovery before a re-evaluation, so I would … Continue reading Brow Down: Reactions to AD’s Injury

Lakers Through 15

It appears the defending champs have tackled another trek through unusual waters as good as they did the first time in the Orlando bubble. The Los Angeles Lakers are standing tall at 11-4, tied with their roommates, the LA Clippers, for the best record in the NBA. They’ve steamrolled most of these wins, and pulled out some that were closer than head coach Frank Vogel would have enjoyed. I have but the mildest of concerns thus far, and here they are. Taking the Night Off As we’ve seen with any and all sure-fire title contenders, some regular season nights, the … Continue reading Lakers Through 15

The New Kids: Thoughts on Laker Pickups

The defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers got busy this offseason, adding new faces to their already star-studded roster. This going to be a long one, if you’re curious. Before we get into the new acquisitions, first a shout out to the returnees. LeBron James and Anthony Davis resigned long-term, cementing the Lakers as championship contenders for the next 3-4 years, at least. I don’t expect the two of them to come out of the gates swinging at full force with the short offseason, so health and longevity will once again be the biggest question marks for the league’s most … Continue reading The New Kids: Thoughts on Laker Pickups

Job’s Finished

(Wrote this the day after the chip, but held it for no reason at all.) Nearly a year after they began their 2019-2020 campaign, the Los Angeles Lakers are the reigning NBA champions. We were told that LeBron came to LA to make movies and ride off into the sunset. He was awarded his 4th Finals MVP and was the best player in basketball throughout the playoffs. We were told Anthony Davis was soft, too-often injured, and cost the Lakers too much in assets. He dominated every series with his superior length and ability, didn’t miss a single postseason game, … Continue reading Job’s Finished

The Heat is On: Coming Full Circle

Nearly a decade ago, a superstar from Akron, Ohio named LeBron James took his talents to South Beach, and joined the Miami Heat, leaving behind the Cleveland Cavaliers to pursue a title in Florida and shocking the sporting universe. After all the hype and media gushing about the NBA’s first “super team,” the Heat lost to a bunch of old guys and we were left questioning the King’s greatness. But James and the Heat bounced back in great fashion, and ultimately LeBron left Miami with two rings. He graciously returned home to Cleveland, promising his beloved hometown that he would … Continue reading The Heat is On: Coming Full Circle

Go Small or Go Home

Like, really fuckin’ small. It took the Los Angeles Lakers just five games to vanquish Portland in the first round. The Trail Blazers used Jusuf Nurkić and Hassan Whiteside to try to match size against the likes of Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard, and company, which in flashes did do some good in slowing down the Lakers from attacking the paint with ease. But, it was largely not enough to stop the aforementioned AD and LeBron James doing what they do best: punish opponents inside. The Lakers now advance to round two to face a Houston Rockets team that actively pretends … Continue reading Go Small or Go Home

Star-Driven

Sometimes, you gotta just do it yourself. Or yourselves, in this case. Game 3 between the Blazers and Lakers stood to reward its victor with control over the series. And with that prize on the line, LeBron James and Anthony Davis seized the moment. Just like I and many others expected, the Lakers would not be repeating their great shooting night from Game 2, and Damian Lillard and friends would not be repeating their performance either. However, down the stretch, it was the Lakers stars and defense from their counterparts that sealed the deal. The Blazers came out with plenty … Continue reading Star-Driven
