Star-Driven

Sometimes, you gotta just do it yourself. Or yourselves, in this case. Game 3 between the Blazers and Lakers stood to reward its victor with control over the series. And with that prize on the line, LeBron James and Anthony Davis seized the moment. Just like I and many others expected, the Lakers would not be repeating their great shooting night from Game 2, and Damian Lillard and friends would not be repeating their performance either. However, down the stretch, it was the Lakers stars and defense from their counterparts that sealed the deal. The Blazers came out with plenty … Continue reading Star-Driven

All Business

Now that’s what I’m talking about. Game 2 of the first round series between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Los Angeles Lakers came with higher stakes than much of Laker Nation would have hoped. They turned in a disappoint effort in Game 1, after years of waiting to return to the postseason. Another loss would spell disaster for Laker fans everywhere, and to some, seal their fate to a first round exit. But, much to their pleasure, the Lakers turned in a performance that should undoubtedly remind the Blazers and the entire NBA that they were indeed the team … Continue reading All Business

God-Dame…

Any self-respecting Laker fan last week should have cheered aggressively for Phoenix, Memphis, Brooklyn, and then Memphis again. And tonight showed you why. You do not want any part of Damian Lillard in these playoffs. Lakers lost Game 1 of this first round series to Portland 100-93, making sure to check the box for every weakness they had going in while they did it. Poor guard play overall, even poorer half-court offense, and horrid three point shooting. Now it’s just one game, but the Lakers need some relatively quick fixes without much to work with. Danny Green and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope … Continue reading God-Dame…

Bubble Thoughts

Hey world, long time no see. Since we last spoke, I moved back home, earned my degree, and upgraded pretty much every technological aspect of my life to eliminate all potential excuses to not hammer out posts for you. But you know how I am, so we can never be sure. I have a spattering of thoughts about the NBA, the whole bubble experience, and on some other things, so here they go. Of course we’ll start with the purple and gold. Assessing the Lakers bubble experience kind of depends on what you expected from them. I pretty much got … Continue reading Bubble Thoughts

I Can Explain & Life at Home

So hey there loyal subjects. Me again. It has been three long, literally insane months since I posted about Madbum leaving San Francisco. The holiday season got hectic with family, shopping, my girlfriend’s birthday, etc. Then I admittedly got lazy for the remainder of winter break (thanks COD), and vowed to return once school started. But then school started and I got distracted with my last two classes, trying to end on a positive note with two high A’s. Then we tragically lost Kobe Bryant. It’s crazy how, even as I type this months later, it’s still so surreal and … Continue reading I Can Explain & Life at Home

Life Without MadBum

Once again, it’s been awhile. Finals are over for the second to last time in my life, and a lot has happened in my little sporting universe since I last posted. The Browns futility need not be discussed, and the Lakers have brought me so much joy that a gushy post about how much I worship Anthony Davis just seems unnecessary. In other words, I have no words for Cleveland, and the Lakers are so good what more can I say that’s already been said? So we can rain check a post for those two. Though there was one bit … Continue reading Life Without MadBum

So Far, So Good: Lakers Opening Strong

The Lakers took care of business Sunday night, besting the Charlotte Hornets 120-101 at home to improve to 2-1 on the young season. The Lakers will play Memphis tonight at Staples Center before traveling to Dallas for a Friday night battle with Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. Through the first week of the season, the Lakers are largely what we expected them to be: a team with plenty of size playing at a much slower pace, but defends much better than any Laker team previous (especially in the paint), and actually has three point shooters capable of cashing in wide … Continue reading So Far, So Good: Lakers Opening Strong

Fading Fast: Browns Drop Yet Another Home Game

I feel like a broken record at this point, but here it is again: the Cleveland Browns played and lost another sloppy game at home. A solid first half of football against the formidable Seattle Seahawks was followed up by another turnover-filled effort from Cleveland, and even so, the Browns only lost 32-28. Passes bouncing out of the hands of receivers, an interception in the red zone for the second consecutive week, and a myriad of mishaps Browns fans have been accustomed to so far this season were once again the story Sunday afternoon. Now standing at 2-4, the Browns … Continue reading Fading Fast: Browns Drop Yet Another Home Game

A Collapse for the Ages, but Maybe the Last

Drink up, Dodger fans. This one’s for you. I’m not going to lie and say that as a Giants fan, another year of you not winning it all doesn’t make me giddy with laughter and joy. But, unlike your two previously failed October campaigns, this one hurt even me. In 2017 you gave the stacked Astros offense all it could handle, taking them to a Game 7. Every game that series felt like it could’ve gone either way. And even though Houston popped the champagne bottles instead of you, you guys were a lock to come back next season to … Continue reading A Collapse for the Ages, but Maybe the Last

A Day of Farewells

Sunday’s 9-0 loss to the Dodgers finalized another largely disappointing season of Giants baseball. However, the direction of the team should have fans excited for things to come. And nevertheless, we cannot take anything away from the amazing, emotional, historic day Sunday was for the Giants, and for the skipper, Bruce Bochy. The Bochy goodbye party, as is the case with all Giants parties, was spectacular. The first big ovation came when Boch was announced with the starting lineups for the final time as the manager of the San Francisco Giants. The roar of a stadium not yet full was … Continue reading A Day of Farewells
